Volunteer: Feed My Starving Children
We had the amazing opportunity to help volunteer with Feed My Starving Children this past weekend. It’s always a great experience being able to help people in our community, and truly wonderful to network with people and organizations that share our passion for the fight against hunger.
Feed My Starving Children is a Christian organization that strives to eliminate starvation in children throughout the world. Their mission statement says that they are “Feeding God’s Starving Children Hungry in Body and Spirit,” though they encourage people of all belief systems to help accomplish the overall mission: keeping kids from going hungry.
FMSC follows a few guiding principles that help them to fundraise, package and distribute food to those who need it most. They ensure that their food ingredients are of the highest nutritional value, package food through the generous contributions of volunteers, and partner with other humanitarian organizations to ensure safe transit and distribution of goods. These wonderful people are committed to long-term feeding programs that help ensure children get the food they need throughout their personal physical development, something that we at That’s Caring know is important.
As for our own volunteer efforts this weekend, we brought along a few of That’s Caring employees and supporters to the FMSC location in Schaumburg, IL, and had the amazing good fortune to help pack enough meals to feed 57 children for a year. Those meals will go to hungry children and individuals in Nicaragua, and we couldn’t be happier to have been a part of providing that sustenance to those people in need.
