]]>What message will your company send this holiday season? If you aren’t careful, you risk sending a rushed and standardized message that merely checks gift giving off your busy to-do list. But if you are among the forward-thinking companies looking to extend the impact of your annual contribution to your employees and community, then you’ll communicate passion, expertise and experience.
By knowing and trusting in your values and people—clients, corporate team and whole support network—you’ll nail modern day corporate gift giving etiquette with ease.
Make It Personalized
Let your clients, partners and employees know how well you understand them and their needs. Sweets are popular gifts this time of year, but that doesn’t mean they are right for everyone. For example, those who work at catering companies are probably already overwhelmed with treats. And not everyone wants to load up on carbohydrates all year! In addition to the popular foodie gifts, consider an alternative healthy option that boosts energy. Hearty trail mix is a go-to snack for busy folks and is available in a variety of deluxe varieties.
Extend Your Reach
If you make your list of gift recipients and check it twice, but you still worry that someone might be missing, then you are not alone. Everyone has the sense that there is someone out there left empty handed. And, sadly, this is in fact the case. Fortunately, there is an easy way for you to find these people and help them out!
If your company feels responsible for helping those with less, then gifts that give back are your answer to the lingering sense that something is missing. TOMS shoes brought to a forefront the idea of giving gifts that simultaneously provide a benefit to the recipient and another person who is making do with less. And now there are several other companies that also make it possible to extend your reach and surpass expectations by choosing a unique variation of giving gifts.
Team Up
During this turbulent season, encourage others to help you better the lives of those in need. Remember and be sensitive to the fact that this is an emotional time for those facing hardship, and there are wonderful opportunities to lift spirits and brighten futures. When you extend a helping hand, invite the recipients of your gift to do the same. Whether they make note of the source of your gift to purchase it in the future or take immediate action toward the cause it benefits, it is easy for recipients to add to your noteworthy efforts.
Show Gratitude
It is more than okay for you, and everyone who has a part in your work, to be proud of it. When the holiday season concludes, showcase your good deeds—putting an emphasis on the people who make it possible for you to continue to do what you love with passion. Thank your clients and partners for empowering you with the resources and drive to help your community. And let them know the final tally of your impact on it. If others have joined the effort, you may choose to call out top donors and send them a personalized note.
Alleviate Personal Responsibility
One of the most appreciated things you can do for people during this busy season is alleviate them of tasks and commitments. By choosing gift that give back, you let your recipients know that they have done their good deed this season simply by enjoying their socially responsible gift that gives back. Also be sure to avoid giving gifts that require maintenance—for example flowers and refrigerated foods.
Your best clients know that you always foresee their needs and problem solve ahead of time, and your seasonal gift can illuminate this—making it a gift that also gives back to your bottom line.
Lead by Example
Corporate gifts, especially those given during the holiday season, are one of the greatest investments that your company can make. The expense incurred is far outweighed by the return on this meaningful investment—showing you believe in efficient use of resources. Improved client relationships and retention, a boost in employee moral and an enhanced company image are your gift to your company and your demonstration of keen professionalism.
When you give items from a company that embraces the one-for-one concept, the value of this gift will far surpass your greatest imagination. Companies like That’s Caring make it possible for a hungry child in the US to have a weekend supply of meals each time a gift is given. Whether low-income or homeless, those touched by your generosity will fill many hearts this season. Set an example for other companies and individuals to follow, and be proud of doing so.
Now is the time to customize your unique corporate gifts with your company logo, branded packing and special holiday cards. Be a leader in your field and corporate giving this year!

]]>At That's Caring, we want to make sure that we are always doing as much as we can to leave a completely positive impact on our world, which is why every step of the gift-making process is considered in-depth. One of the most important steps is deciding which products to include in our gift boxes.
We are always looking for better and ethical products that we can feature, and when one of our partners, Northern Illinois Food Bank, suggested we speak with Equal Exchange, we leapt at the opportunity. After meeting the Equal Exchange team, hearing about their products and their mission, in Jamie's words, "we fell in love with them."
The chocolate, tea and banana industries are some of the most corrupt and unfair for farmers and workers. The majority of companies in these industries take advantage of laborers by paying them an unlivable wage, creating hazardous work conditions and destroying the environment they live in.
Equal Exchange is different by design. When they were founded in 1986, they were determined to challenge the existing trade model, which benefits the wealthy and exploits small farmers. Instead of following these practices, Equal Exchange supported their farmers by providing a fair and livable income, labor rights and ownership in the company.
They also focus on engaging consumers by educating them about the process of making these products, their farmers, the locations they’re grown in and other aspects of fair trade.
The processes of making Equal Exchange chocolate, tea and coffee are truly fascinating. They all start off the same, with farmers in different regions of the world growing tea leaves, coffee beans and cacao. Next, the farmers harvest the ingredients, plucking tea leaves, picking coffee beans and cutting down cacao pods.
From there, the processes differ from one another, but one thing remains the same: each step is carefully considered by Equal Exchange, ensuring that their products are ethical, sustainable and—of course—delicious.
On their website, you can read more about the process of making tea, coffee and chocolate.
Over the last 30 years, Equal Exchange has developed relationships with farmer co-ops on four continents. We wish we could share the story of every partner they work with, but you can read all about them here. We can, however, share all of the countries they have partners in:
South America
Central & North America
|
Asia
Africa

Equal Exchange offers a variety of products, including chocolates, teas, hot cocoas and even bananas, each of which is certified fair trade. We feature several chocolate bars, kinds of tea and hot cocoa in our gift boxes. If you'd like to buy their bananas, which we don't include in our gift boxes but totally recommend, you can look for the bananas with the Equal Exchange sticker at the grocery store.
Here are just some of the Equal Exchange products you'll find in That's Caring gift boxes:
We are truly excited about our partnership with Equal Exchange and their mission to promote fair trade and high-quality products. If you'd like any more information on their work or on the products we feature, please give us a call at 224.366.5323 or send an email to jamie@thatscaring.com.

Words of Sympathy for Loss of Loved One
It can be hard to know what to say when someone you care for loses a loved one. Whether you'd like to offer words of sympathy for the loss of a mother, father, husband, wife, sibling or even a pet, these condolence messages might help you express your sadness and support.
Words of sympathy are simply meant to offer comfort and show that you care; they do not have to make the loss any less difficult. Reminding the person grieving that you care for and support them in this trying time is all that your condolence message need do.
Consider your relation to the person you're sending your words of sympathy to as well as what you think they would appreciate. These are the two factors that your message should address.
Again, however, it is important to remember that you do not have to agonize over your message. The gesture of sending a sympathy card is often enough of a comfort to the person grieving.
If you would also like to send a gift with your sympathy card, we have created a gift guide of sympathy gifts that give back to various causes and charities and accommodate different price ranges, too. But let's begin with what to write in a sympathy card.
Sometimes, if you're not sure how to comfort someone, a few short words of sympathy are enough to show you care. The sympathy messages below will comfort someone dealing with a difficult loss.
You might have a lot to say to someone grieving, so here are some suggested words of sympathy, separated by intended purpose. You can combine several of these sympathetic phrases to create a longer message or use them as inspiration for your own words of sympathy.
These phrases, very similar to the words of sympathy above, convey your care for the grieving person and are a good way to begin your condolence message.
If you knew the deceased well, these are some ways to convey that you care about not only the person grieving, but also the one that they lost.
Sometimes, you'd like the person grieving to know that you are there for them. Here are some suggested words of sympathy that convey your support.
These sentiments may be helpful in ending your condolence messages.
Religion often provides comforting words of sympathy for those dealing with a difficult loss. It is important to consider who you're sending your sympathy card to, though, because different people will appreciate religious words of sympathy to different extents.
We've included religious sympathy messages from the three largest religions in the United States, but if you know that the person you're sending this sympathy card to believes in a different religion, we encourage you to send them comforting words from their own belief system. The consideration and thoughtfulness of the gesture is sure to be equally as comforting as the words of sympathy.
Christianity is the most practiced religion in the United States, so these are some Christian words of sympathy that might help someone grieving.
Psalms 18:28: For it is you who light my lamp; the LORD my God lightens my darkness
Psalms 34:18: The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit
Isaiah 57:1-2: The righteous man perishes, and no one lays it to heart; devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from calamity; he enters into peace; they rest in their beds who walk in their uprightness.
Philippians 4:7: And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Here are some Jewish words of sympathy that might provide comfort to those grieving a loss.
Psalm 34:19: Adonai is close to the brokenhearted, and helps those crushed in spirit.
Psalm 21:1-3: I lift my eyes to the mountains; What is the source of my help? My help comes from Adonai, Maker of heaven and earth. God will not let your foot give way; your Protector will not slumber
Psalm 103:16-18: The days of mortals are like grass; We flourish as the flowers of the field. A wind passes over them and they are not more; And no one can recognize where they grew. But Adonai’s compassion is everlasting
Ecclesiastes 3:1-6: For everything there is a season, a time for every experience under heaven: A time to be born and a time to die, A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted, A time to tear down and a time to build up, A time to weep and a time to laugh, A time to grieve and a time to dance
If the person you are sending your words of sympathy to is a Muslim, these are some condolence messages that they might appreciate.
We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return
May He make [his/her] grave a place of comfort and light
May Almighty Allah dwell him in Jannataul-Firdaus, the most beautiful paradise
All that is on earth will perish, but the face of your Lord will abide forever, full of Majesty, Bounty and Honor(Qur'an Surah Rahman; 55:26-27)
If you aren't sure exactly what religion the person grieving believes in but you would like to say religious words of sympathy, these aren't specific to any religion and will likely show this person that you care.
I'm praying that God's light and love shines on you in your grief.
My thoughts and prayers are with you always.
God's love and grace are with you in this difficult time.
You and your loved ones will be in my prayers.
May [his/her] memory be a blessing.
Though nothing can truly take away the pain of losing a loved one, knowing that there are friends and family who care about you is a comfort. That is the true purpose of condolence messages and sympathy cards.
Tasty Catering is a company with award-winning culture, so we wanted their custom corporate holiday gifts to reflect that! See what we created.
]]>Tasty Catering focuses on creating a positive, engaging company culture to drive success—and people have taken note. The Chicago caterer has been recognized by Forbes as one of the 50 Best Small Companies of 2016, by the American Psychological Association as one of the healthiest places to work and several others for prioritizing a healthy culture.
Every year, Tasty Catering gives clients, partners and all kinds of corporate connections holiday gifts, not only to show their appreciation for the work they do together, but to remind them what made them chose Tasty in the first place: their culture. So, when we create their custom holiday corporate gifts, there's the unique challenge of incorporating their incredible culture into our gifts that give back.
Culture is not just what you do; it’s how you do it. Giving a generic gift and sincere card doesn't reflect the emotional connection Tasty has with its clients, but a donation in their name couldn't be shared with the client's whole office. As a small business, we also wanted to make sure Tasty could send to everyone on their list, so we made sure that each gift was under $50.
We've been working with Tasty Catering since 2008, and after eight holiday seasons, we like to get creative and change it up, making sure that their gifts that give back are fresh and festive. See how we customized their holiday gifts that give back for the perfect seasonal treat!
Because Tasty Catering is a caterer, we focused on the flavors of the season when customizing their gift. As the gifts were sent out just before Thanksgiving, we tried to mix fall classics and wintry cheer. Cinnamon Spice Peaces, Holly Jolly Jingle Mix, Caramel Apple Cookies and more made for the perfect combination of festive and flavorful.
Again, making sure to incorporate Tasty Catering's love of food into their cards, we created these custom cards with the cheerful message "Season's Eatings."
The customization didn't stop there. We also changed up our labels to make the products as cheerful as possible, switching from our usual chic black to bright red.
Though we offer shipping to all 50 states, Tasty Catering has the privilege of working with many neighbors and nearby clients. This means that they can hand-deliver many of their gifts by sending them along with deliveries. Not only does this lower their shipping cost, it also adds a personal touch to each gift.
Here are the gifts that give back we created for Tasty Catering's holiday corporate giving!
We always have a blast creating custom gifts for Tasty Catering, and are so grateful to have worked with them for nearly ten years. Over that period, they've made a serious impact on childhood hunger and helped us on our mission to Give Happiness and Help Hunger.
Tasty Catering enjoys a very high client retention rate and, in addition to that, they've helped provide over 1,500 weekend meal bags to the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
If you'd like more information about our custom corporate holiday gifts, our mission to solve childhood hunger or any other details, we'd be happy to start talking today! Just give us a call at 224.366.5323 and one of our gift specialists will help you get started.
]]>Wedding Favors That Give Back | That's Caring
These charitable wedding favor ideas are sure to make your wedding day extra special by giving back to those in need.
]]>
No matter what you choose to be your wedding favors, your wedding day is sure to be truly special. However, there's a new trend of couples making their big day special in the lives of others by giving charitable wedding favors at their receptions.
These wedding favors that give back encourage couples to get creative. You'll want to find the best way to combine showing your guests you appreciate them and supporting a cause you really care about.
We've come up with two different ways you can give charitable wedding favors. There are some wedding favors that give back simply because the companies who make the gifts partner with charitable organizations, so a portion of the proceeds from your wedding favors will go to charity.
Another way to have wedding favors that give back is to buy a small, sometimes even silly gift that represents a donation to a cause on your guest’s behalf. Whichever way you choose, not only will your guests be pleased to be a part of your special day, but you will also make a difference in the lives of others in need.
Each of these wedding favors comes from a company that partners with charitable organizations, ensuring that proceeds from each go toward a deserving cause.
(RED) and Ubuntu Made
These reusable coffee sleeves are not only environmentally friendly, but Ubuntu Made employs Kenyan workers, and the proceeds go to AIDS treatment.
Rescue Chocolate
If you're chocolate lovers or dog lovers (or both!), this is the perfect wedding favor. Proceeds from the tasty treats go to dog fostering programs.
That's Caring
For every 24 cookies, one weekend bag will be provided to a child struggling with hunger in communities across the US.
Bare Soaps
These soap bars come in customizable canvas bags, and 20% of proceeds are invested into developing economies in Uganda and India.
Sprout
Not only can you use these pencils, but you can plant them, too, and they'll grow into various flowers and herbs. The pencils also support children's education.
Project 7
Not only is this a cute idea (and really delicious gum!), but Project 7 also gives back to seven different areas of need, so you'll make a serious impact.
If you'd simply like to make a donation to charity on your guests' behalf, these small gifts will represent the donation you made in a sweet (and a bit silly!) way.
Yoobi
If you're giving back to charities supporting children, education or the arts, a few colored pencils tied together is a cute representation of that. Also, Yoobi is a one-for-one company, meaning they'll donate one of everything sold to children in need.
If you're donating to a charity that promotes sustainability or environmental causes, giving your guests packets of seeds or small plants, like succulents, is a cute nod.
These small animal toys are a silly and fun representation of a donation to an animal cause, whether you're donating to save dogs and cats or lions and tigers.
The rainbow has come to represent LGBTQ+ causes, so any small rainbow-colored items would represent a donation to charities for equality.
Giving your guests a small portion of a snack or treat could symbolize a donation to a charity that works to solve hunger.
If you'd simply like to get your guests a card representing the donation, these postcards help provide clean, accessible water in areas that need it.
These charitable wedding favors are here for inspiration, so we hope they helped spark your creativity! Whatever you choose to do, your wedding favors that give back will make your special day extra special.

Standard Gratitude and Thanks Notes
These notes are going to be pretty simple and relatively short. It’s easy to write what you’re thankful for and personalize it with the recipient’s name! Writing both will show the recipient exactly why you are grateful, and adding the name demonstrates that you took special time to think of this gift. Try a note similar to this:
“Thank you so much for [enter occasion here], [enter name here]!”
Formal Gratitude and Thanks Notes
Formal Gratitude and Thanks notes are notes geared toward a gift for someone who is a work or educational superior, formal acquaintance, a boss, a professor or teacher, or in any situation when you’re addressing someone using a formal title. Any time you need to address someone formally in a gift or greeting card while expressing your thanks and gratitude, try this:
“Thank you, Mr. (or Mrs. Or Ms.) [enter last name here], for [enter occasion here]!”
Informal Gratitude and Thanks Notes
If you’re writing a Gratitude or Thanks note to close friends, friends, family, coworkers with which you are amiable, colleagues with whom you enjoy working, and in other “friendly” situations, use something light and fun. Thanking someone for letting you borrow a car to get to the airport, or expressing gratitude for a good recommendation in an interview, or telling a tutor how much he or she has helped a student? Use any of these:
When All Else Fails
Still not sure your note will fit the recipient of your gift? You can never go wrong with the ultimate form of a simple Gratitude or Thanks note:
“Thank you!” – [enter sender’s name here]

Coming up with a good luck card message that is more exciting than, well, good luck can be difficult. With that in mind, we created suggestions that will help you decide what to say when good luck just isn't good enough.
The suggestions for short and long good luck card messages below will help you get the ball rolling, but if you need more inspiration or good luck card ideas, there are suggestions in this article that will help you say good luck to everyone you know and for every reason we can imagine, like buying a new house, getting a new job, graduating and more!
Sometimes you simply want to say good luck in a personal and kind way. Each of the short good luck card messages below can be personalized or left as-is—either way, your good thoughts will be appreciated.
Good luck card message idea: Depending on who you're writing to, you can change the formality level of your good luck card message. Some people you know so well that you can just jump into a funny message, and with others, you'll want to keep things calmer.
You might have more to say than a few words wishing luck. These longer good luck card messages will let you say how you feel in a personal and detailed way. The few categories below classify some of the different types of good luck card messages and give suggestions for each. To start, though, here are some different, longer ways to wish someone good luck.
Good luck cards are generally light-hearted and happy messages, so you might want to include something funny to get a laugh or even just a smile out of whoever you're wishing good luck.
Good luck card message idea: You can substitute these funny good luck card messages with a funny memory that the two of you share or an inside joke. If self-deprecating humor is more your style, that would work, too!
In addition to wishing someone good luck, sometimes you'll want to offer your help as well. These good luck card messages will help you wish someone luck but also convey your willingness to help.
Good luck card message idea: Are you wishing them good luck on traveling, moving to another country, or do both of you speak another language? Wishing them luck in that language can be a nice touch, and it makes the card feel more personal.
Again, you don't have to stress about your good luck card message too much, and especially not this part! The sign-off is your chance to make any last comments and close the card in the tone you want.
Good luck card message idea: All that is left is the signature, which is pretty straightforward. If you'd like to make it a little more unique, you can sign a nickname or a teasing joke. For example, if you're writing your card to a sibling, you could sign it "Mom & Dad's favorite child."
We hope our suggestions will help you say good luck to a loved one, close friend, coworker or anyone else in your life. If you'd like to say good luck with a small gift, too, That's Caring offers a wide range of gifts, from wine, cheese and chocolate gift boxes to sweet and salty snack mixes; you're sure to find the right gift for a loved one. Learn more about our mission to give happiness and help hunger here.

Some people think that the classic TOMS shoes are unattractive, but I couldn’t disagree more. I think they’re practical and go with everything. I only own three pair and given tons away as gifts (and there I go again with the gift ideas…). I would recommend starting out with two pairs: one neutral color and one funky pattern or bold color. After that you can start exploring the different styles of shoes (heels, boots, cardones, ballet flats, etc.).
As with everything I own and give away, I’m always looking for a second use in items and I stumbled across these adorable, creative ways to re-purpose your old TOMS!
The bracelet is my favorite TOMS shoe alternative use, and if you’re clever enough with a needle and thread, maybe you can make one without the janky-ness of a rubber band. If you figure it out, please share your skills with me! On that note, please share with me any other ways to reuse TOMS or other old shoes that you’ve come up with!
